the emo setlist - 003 - Epiphany

January 19th, 2024

Introduction - Epiphany 🥁

TIL that The New Amsterdams are a side project of Matt Pryor from The Get Up Kids. My mind is blown 🤯. I know every word from their “Never You Mind” album from countless listening around the time it was released in 2000. I even listened to The Get Up Kids “Something to Write Home About” in that same time frame. My world all came together when I saw photography legend Michael Dubin (Long Island Hardcore Scrapbook) sharing a story for Matt’s upcoming solo tour and then a clip right after it of the New Amsterdams from 2001. It is all so obvious now. How did I miss this? Either way, “The New Amsterdams” are back on constant rotation. Definitely go to one of Matt’s upcoming “songs & stories” solo tour dates supporting his memoir book “Red Letter Days” if you are on the East coast. Also, make sure to pre-order the book too! LINK

Reminders 🗓️

  1. Issues is wrapping up their final stops of their Farewell tour with all remaining dates sold out. Joining them is Brian Butcher on vocals from The Home Team. Their final show will be available to watch on January 28th via Livestream on Veeps. For even more Issues, check out the latest episode of The Lead Singer Syndrome podcast featuring Skylar Acord. Read 📚

  1. Klear media published an artist highlight referring to sace6 as “the mega star waiting to burst”. I agree both with the statement as well as the write-up further describing sace6 which is spot on. LINK

  2. Matthew Hoopes (Relient K) started an interesting thread about amps with insight in both the thread and comments. Checkout his guitar pedals via 1981 Inventions while you’re on the page. It was a valuable thread worth checking out. LINK

  3. Mnstrm media released their January issue and is loaded with amazing winter tour photos including but not limited to Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness (📸 Brittani Wert), Citizen and Mayday Parade (📸 Suzanne Leszczynski), and Pierce the Veil and The Maine (📸 Rickie McCanna). LINK

Listen 🎧

  1. Tuna on Toast with Ted Stryker released their latest podcast featuring Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday. LINK

Jobs/Search/Opportunities 🔎

  1. Mom Jeans (Eric) is open to being a guest on your podcast. LINK

Releases 🎵

  1. Rarity released two new tracks - “Keep it to Yourself” and “OKAY”. Check them out and give them a follow! LINK

  2. sace6 released a new single, “Bury My Head in my Hands”. If you are looking for a talented, upcoming artist to say “I knew them before they became huge”, I think sace6 is one of the unique talents that will continue to have tremendous success in the future. LINK

  3. Blacklit Canopy released their first YouTube video in 9 years - Mud Angel (live) in addition to their EP that was released in 2023. LINK

Capture of the week 📷

  1. Connor Leniham is one of my favorite photographers to follow and has captured some dream shows. I know this set was posted two weeks ago, although I could not skip highlighting these from one of the Something Corporate (my favorite band of all time) New Years Eve shows. This is just one example of the caliber of photographer that Connor is and you should check out all of his Instagram feed. He is currently on tour taking photos for The Plot In You in support of Beartooth and cannot wait to see more of the shots from this tour. I already have my tickets for the sold-out Indy show and cannot wait! LINK

If you've made it this far, thank you so much for supporting this endeavor!

Feel free to message me about things you liked, opportunities for improvement, and what I should do differently. See you again next week in the emo setlist!

Stay emo 🖤

Ryan
