the emo setlist - 013 - Silence
April 10th, 2025
Introduction - Silence 🌒
It has been a long time. Too long.
A couple weeks ago, I found a new YouTube Channel called “The Hope Archives” where they are remastering music videos and providing them in the channel. A song that I had not listened to in many years began playing - “Carry Me Down” by Demon Hunter. The lyrics, “For every word we never spoke” hit hard. I began this newsletter to share the positive, to offer hope, and to be a bright part of someone’s day. I never stopped writing but I stopped publishing. It is time to begin writing again.
Beyond the emotional response to a forgotten song, it reminded me of another memory. I was heavily involved in youth group in high school and one of my highlights each week was looking forward to the “music video” that we would watch. Growing up in a home where MTV and VH1 were stripped from the TV (yes, I know that I could enter the channel directly with the remote which is why MTV channel 28, VH1 channel 36, BET channel 37 or something like that will be etched into my mind forever). I lived off of sampler music video DVDs from labels like Trustkill, Solid State, and Tooth & Nail.
At some point, I became the curator of the weekly music video and I am to this day convinced that if they did not leave with a heart for Jesus, they left with a healthy dose of Norma Jean, Zao, Hopesfall, Underoath, or Emery.
I could never get enough music. The small flicker of a candle or match will bring light to a room. Likewise is the power of music; where a single note carries memories, emotions, highs, lows, and hope. I am ready to get back to covering these defining moments in this edition of the emo setlist.
The year is off to a strong start with amazing shows and new releases.

Tour Recap 🎉
Armor For Sleep just wrapped up their 20 years of What to Do When You Are Dead tour with a stacked lineup of Boys Night Out and Hellogoodbye. I was able to capture moments from the Columbus, OH show and it exceeded expectations. Although this was an early album celebration, don’t sleep on their new music including their latest release “What A Beautiful World” and their 2022 album, “The Rain Museum”. If you do not have them on rotation after all of these years, make this the week to discover multiple no-skip albums.
The artists and musicians touring to celebrate these albums are truly delivering so many special moments for fans. Although I’m sure there are many 100 cap rooms that you wish you could go back into time to experience, these tours showcase the refined talent, experience, and creative genius that the bands have spent years perfecting. These shows are magical and are a product of passion, sacrifice, and love of music.
At the same time, don’t miss opportunities to discover new music, support new artists, and attend local shows, Invest and show up for your local music scene.
Underoath photo pit video - zachxburns@ is currently on tour with Underoath and produced one of the craziest show videos that I’ve seen. If you have not seen it, check it out here. Amazing work 🙌🏻 and make sure to give Zach a follow if you don’t already.
Music 🎸
My most played songs this week.
Encore 🎸
Beyond the music, I am hoping to do more backpacking/camping this summer so that I can capture timelapses of the night. I’ve been nerding out on hours and hours of ultralight backpacking gear videos so am always up for backpacking discussions. Since I am beginning with no gear, I am slowly acquiring items each month.
Thank you for joining me again with this week’s emo setlist! 🙏🏼
If you've made it this far, thank you so much for supporting this endeavor!
Feel free to message me about things you liked, opportunities for improvement, and what I should do differently. See you again next week in the emo setlist!
Stay emo 🖤
